Welcome to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training program! This class is designed to develop self-defense skills, build confidence, teach patience and self-control. There is no punching or kicking during sparring in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Instead, it is a series of techniques that leads to a finishing move or dominant position. Finishing someone is known as the TAPOUT or a submission! BJJ looks very similar to collegiate wrestling or Judo. Above all we want to be able to protect ourselves. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, when studied properly is the most effective self-defense method in the world.

BJJ belt ranking is a slow process. Stripes are contingent on class participation alone. If the student misses half of the class, or is not mentally involved, even though physically present; credit for class participation may not be given. Once a student has four stripes it is near time for a belt promotion. No marks are given for attendance, once a student has four stripes. A belt promotion is based of the students abilities, age, and skills; it’s not automatic or a given. The stripes distinguish a new belt from an experienced one. The time in belt transition, after four stripes, is a buffer for different abilities and types of learning. Students will earn their belts through practicing BJJ, performing Jiu Jitsu moves in class, achievements in BJJ competition, dedication, and behavior.
*Most Importantly: The gym is for Martial Arts only. Enjoy your time training.
